Nick Jaskiewicz believes training must reflect the reality of the job. In law enforcement, there are no timeouts, no perfect conditions, and no room for leadership that treats preparedness like a box to check. Deputies must be ready to fight, communicate, render lifesaving care, and make critical decisions under pressure when seconds matter most.

That is why this work is personal to Nick. Nick Jaskiewicz, candidate for Sheriff of Cecil County, is proud to announce the selection of William D. Mott Sr. as his Chief Deputy—a veteran law enforcement leader whose career has been defined by integrity, accountability, and results.

Mr. Mott honorably served in the United States Marine Corps before beginning a distinguished 25-year career with the Paterson Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Detective Lieutenant.

Extensive Experience in Major Investigations
In addition to his Internal Affairs leadership, Mr. Mott commanded Street Gang Intelligence and served as Executive Officer of Internal Affairs. He also supervised a Major Crimes Squad, leading complex investigations into violent crime and gang activity.

He worked closely with federal and state partners including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and served as a direct liaison with the FBI following the September 11 attacks.

For 12 years, he served on an Anti-Crime Task Force targeting violent offenders and street gangs, and he has been recognized as an expert witness in court on narcotics, weapons, gang activity, and internal affairs investigations.

Committed to Community and Family
Now a resident of Elkton, Mr. Mott has been married to his wife JoAnne for 36 years. He is the proud father of two sons and a grandfather of two.

As a result, cooperation between local law enforcement agencies is essential for identifying patterns, sharing information, and responding effectively.

Strong professional relationships between agencies can improve communication, streamline investigations, and ensure that resources are used efficiently when responding to incidents that affect multiple jurisdictions.

Coordinated Agreements Between Agencies

One tool used to support cooperation between agencies is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). These agreements help define how agencies assist one another, outline operational expectations, and clarify capabilities and limitations during joint operations.
